I don't know about you but I'm just itching for this semester to be over... maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm GRADUATING!!!! In the midst of all the craziness that the last semseter of school brings, I was in need of some crafting down time to cool my head, combine that with my excitement that the end is oh-so-near, and this paper heart garland is the result! Remember how fun those chain link garlands were in elementary school? Now I can see the days falling away as beautiful paper hearts! Not to mention I used recycled magazine pages - and you know how recycling just tickles my pickle! Not just for the end of school, count down to a vacation, a raise, an anniversary, or a birthday. You can even get the kiddos involved to help you cut out the hearts - better yet practice their math skills and help you figure out how many hearts & pages you will need... the possibilities for amazing crafty-ness are endless!
I know there are lots of paper garland tutorials out there, and its pretty easy to figure out just from the pictures, but in case you are a little stumped I included my version of the tutorial after the jump.
Let the countdown begin!

- Magazine pages
- Scissors
- Sewing Machine
- Marker
TIME: approx 1 hr.
DO IT AGAIN: Of course! Garlands make counting down more fun!
If you have the space, It could be fun to just let the hearts fall on the ground and leave them there till the big day comes!

ReplyDeleteSo I just finished making the heart garland for my daughter to count down to her wedding. Aug. 12. She was so excited that it was so neat but also that she gets to cut off a heart daily too. I do have to tell you I was so frustrated at times during the sewing process. I went back to read the instructions after starting. And the pulling the heart while sewing is soooo important. I also found that using my joanne fabrics flyer worked great(the paper is thicker). Of course I figure that out for the last 3 hearts that I needed. My sewing machine liked it better. BUT all that to say... I persevered and was excited about the end result. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to do for a wedding! Funny, i never even thought of that. Thanks so much for trying my craft and sharing your experience!
