So exciting when you finish a project that seems like its been in the works forever isn't it? This top was a school project from las fall - a lesson on the dolman sleeve. Its been in the bottom of my "in progress" drawer for a while and I was finally able to finish it. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.
I don't know if you can tell on the close ups but for the bodice pieces I doubled up the striped chiffon but used the cross-grain for the lining pieces, which created a plaid sort of look for the top. The midriff is interfaced with white which makes the stripes really stand out. The peplum is just a single layer of chiffon, but its so light it flies up when the person next to me breathes. Not sure if there's a way to fix that.
Actually the whole top is so light it reminds me of those tricky bathrooms with the double sided mirror walls that make you feel like people can see you but they really can't. I feel so naked wearing it it took me a while to stop looking down to make sure everything was still on right. I like the lightness of it though, and the way the stripes look a bit pajama top-ish. I think I'll get some good use out of this one.
I didn't change much from my original drape, just lengthened the peplum and added a strip across the back shoulders so it would stay up and I wouldn't flash everyone :)
The "plaid" effect is somewhat visible here:
